Research Postgraduate (PhD)
Imperial College London
London, United Kingdom
Md Kamrul Hasan is a PhD candidate in the Bioengineering department at Imperial College London (ICL) under the supervision of Dr. Choon Hwai Yap and Dr. Guang Yang. In the PhD study, he is working on the deployment of AI-powered medical image computing methods, especially focusing on fetal echocardiography. As an Erasmus scholar, he earned a Master of Science in Medical Imaging and Application (MAIA) in 2019 from France (University of Burgundy), Italy (University of Cassino and Southern Lazio), and Spain (University of Girona). In 2014 and 2017, he obtained a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) from Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET). His research interests include medical image and data analysis, machine learning, deep convolutional neural networks, medical image reconstruction, augmented reality, and surgical robotics in minimally invasive surgery.
Previously, Mr. Hasan worked on laparoscopic imaging and AI under Professor Dr. Adrien Bartoli for his MAIA thesis at the EnCoV research team in Clermont-Ferrand, France. The thesis developed an ART-Net to recognize, segment, and extract geometric characteristics for surgical instrument 3D pose estimation. Tool-aware AR in minimally invasive laparoscopy increases depth perception with segmented tool masks. Computer-assisted laparoscopy used the 3D tool pose to measure and overlay the pre-operative 3D model on the real-time laparoscopic image. Later in 2021, Elsevier published the thesis in Medical Image Analysis. His previous works were also published in various journals, such as Medical Image Analysis (MIA, Elsevier), Computer in Biology and Medicine (CBM, Elsevier), Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (AIIM, Elsevier), Biomedical Signal Processing and Control (BSCP, Elsevier), IEEE Access, etc.
