Assistant Professor of Bioengineering & Chemistry
Rice University
Houston, Texas, United States
Dr. McHugh is an Assistant Professor and CPRIT Scholar in Cancer Research in the Departments of Bioengineering and Chemistry at Rice University whose work has been featured in journals such as Science, Science Translational Materials, Advanced Materials, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. His lab focuses on the development of biomaterial systems for drug delivery and tissue engineering with an emphasis on advanced fabrication techniques, such as photolithography and multi-photon 3D printing, biodegradable polymers, and bioorthogonal click chemistry. Prior to joining Rice’s faculty, Dr. McHugh received his bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University, his master’s degree and Ph.D. from Boston University, and was a Postdoctoral Fellow in Robert Langer’s laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where his research aimed to develop vaccine-delivery systems for low-resource settings.
