Maya Papez (B.S., Biomedical Engineering, 2022) is a research associate at San José State University (SJSU) in the Chemical Engineering Department, working with Dr. Anand Ramasubramanian. She is currently pursuing her Masters of Science in Biomedical Engineering at SJSU, with a thesis focusing on the development of novel super-resolution microscopy techniques for studying platelet complexes GPIIb/IIIa and FXIII, and their interaction with fibrin clot networks. She has been recognized by SJSU as President of the Year of San José State University's BMES Chapter (2023), and continues to mentor SJSU BMES chapter leaders. Maya also serves as a graduate student advisor for San José State BMEIdea, an entrepeneurial medical device innovation organization, providing guidance to student inventors and researchers from her own individual experiences. In the past, she has worked as a project manager and project management intern at Minaris Regenerative Medicine, a contract development and manufacturing (CDMO) organization in Mountain View, California, assisting in the development of CAR-T cell therapies. Her research interests alongside mechanobiology include tissue engineering and CAR-T cell immunotherapies, specifically geared towards the treatment of aggressive terminal cancers as motivated by personal experiences. In the future, her goals are to pursue further education and research experiences to contribute scientifically to her fields of interest, in order to assist with the discovery of CAR-T treatments that hold a reduced risk of cytokine release syndrome and provide higher rates of patient survival.
