Tsvetelina (Lynna) Baryakova is a fourth year Bioengineering Ph.D. candidate and NSF GRFP fellow working in the labs of Drs. McHugh and Segatori at Rice University. She received her B.S. in Chemical Engineering summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota. As an undergraduate, she worked in the Hackel lab to develop a computationally-informed platform for rapidly identifying improved variants of an antimicrobial lysin specific to an antibiotic-resistant strain of bacteria. Her current research is focused on leveraging the native gut microbiome to develop improved oral delivery strategies for gastrointestinal immunomodulation and on creating prodrug formulations for certain classes of medications. The translational goal of her research is to improve patients’ medication adherence, treatment acceptability, and overall outcome.
