Research Assistant, Ph.D. student
University of Maryland, Maryland, United States
I am Gatha Adhikari. I am a graduate student in the Fischell Department of Bioengineering at the University of Maryland. My current research interests involve making biomedical technologies accessible in low and middle-income communities (LMICs). I am currently designing an in vitro model of cervical pre-cancer and cancer to evaluate treatments for this disease. I am also starting a study of ethanol based treatment for cervical cancer in an in vivo orthotopic mice model. I received a bachelor's degree in Biomedical engineering from Rowan University, where I used imaging-based analysis of single stem cells and tunable materials to investigate cell-material interactions with applications in regenerative medicine. I explored how cell shape, cell-cell contact, and the underlying substrate stiffness affects mechanosensing and ultimately stem cell differentiation.
