Dr. John Daristotle is currently a Postdoctoral Associate in the Langer Lab at MIT. He joined Dr. Ana Jaklenec’s group in January 2020 and has focused on two projects: mRNA vaccine microneedle patches and single injection vaccine delivery systems. He was co-lead on a project that was recently published in Nature Biotechnology titled “A microneedle vaccine printer for thermostable COVID-19 mRNA vaccines.”
Dr. Daristotle received his PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Maryland in 2019. He was advised by Dr. Peter Kofinas and his dissertation was titled “Sprayable, Biodegradable Polymer Blends for Tissue Adhesion.” Dr. Daristotle received the NIH F31 Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Individual Predoctoral Fellowship for this project in 2018. He co-instructed a course titled “Design and Processing of Polymers for Biomedical Devices” at the University of Maryland for the Future Faculty Program. Dr. Daristotle also mentored Team TUMOR in the Gemstone Honors Program, for which he was awarded Gemstone Mentor of the Year in 2019. He graduated magna cum laude with a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maryland in 2014 and received Engineering Honors for his undergraduate thesis titled “Effects of Ethanol on a Phosphatidylethanolamine Bilayer.”
