My name is Sangamithra Vardhan (BS Biological Engineering, MS Biomedical Engineering), a current graduate student in the Sakiyama-Elbert Lab researching properties of astrocyte phenotypes derived from mouse embryonic cells. The goal of my thesis project is to understand specifically the effects of astrocyte phenotype derived components on axon growth of V2a interneurons, a critical population damaged in cervical spinal cord injury. My professional short-term career goal is to be a research and development scientist in neuroscience biotechnology field in industry with an interest in gaining more experience in science and regulatory policy.
