Inclusive Mentoring - Bringing Out Everyone’s Best in Mentoring Relationships

The goal of this session is to create an open dialogue and cross-pollination of ideas between mentors and mentees for how to effectively run an inclusive research group. The session will follow an interview style format with 2-3 mentors and 2-3 mentees, led by one interviewer/discussion leader. The goal will be to identify challenges and opportunities for inclusive mentoring, as well as strategies for success. Specifically, we will highlight that mentoring requires open communication between mentors and mentees to create a successful and collaborative relationship. The session will start with 30’ - 1 hr in the interview format, followed by a Q&A and table discussion. Invited panelists include experts who are successfully implementing inclusive mentoring practices and the mentees providing their perspective on such practices. Lastly, we will generate and disseminate “best practices” documentation and resources for attendees to implement in their own institutions and working relationships.
