Mehdi Jorfi, Ph.D.
Department of Neurology, Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital
Dr. Mehdi Jorfi received his Ph.D. from the University of Fribourg in 2014. He then trained as a postdoctoral fellow at MIT and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). As a postdoc and later an instructor at MGH, Dr. Jorfi developed a new human cellular system to study interactions between peripheral immune cells and resident brain cells in Alzheimer’s disease. In 2019, Dr. Jorfi joined the faculty of Harvard Medical School in the Genetics and Aging Research Unit. The Jorfi group is focused on the intersection of neuroscience, immunology, and engineering. Dr. Jorfi’s team uses stem cells, organ-on-chip technologies, transcriptomic and functional profiling to gain insights into the interplay between peripheral immune cells and neurogenerative diseases. Additionally, Dr. Jorfi’s group studies brain interfaces and what goes wrong in neurogenerative diseases. Dr. Jorfi is the recipient of several grants, including NIH R01 grant, and Cure Alzheimer’s Fund as well as multiple awards such as the honorary Faculty Science Prize and the HBSI Young Scientist Award.
