Mike A Beauregard is a PhD student in Bioengineering at Rice University in Houston, TX. He is currently working to improve therapeutic potency of MSCs through genetic engineering and CRISPR screening approaches. Prior to Rice, Mike was an early employee at Sigilon Therapeutics in Cambridge, MA. Sigilon specialized in encapsulating engineered cells to treat a range of diseases. During his time there, Mike was named as an inventor on 5 patent applications including lead inventorship of a high-throughput, automated cell encapsulation system. Just after Mike left the company in 2020, the first patient was dosed with Sigilon’s technology and the company IPO’ed on the Nasdaq. Sigilon was acquired by Eli Lilly in 2023. Prior to Sigilon, Mike obtained a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA where he worked in the lab of Neil S. Forbes. Mike is originally from Massachusetts and has a wife and two dogs. He enjoys alpine skiing, whitewater kayaking, and travel.
