Rahul Soangra is an Assistant Professor of Department of Physical Therapy at Chapman University. He completed his post-doctoral studies from School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering at Arizona State University. He received his B.E. (Chemical Engineering) from JNV University in 2003, and M.Tech. (Chemical Engineering) from IIT Roorkee in 2006. He received is M.S. (Industrial & Systems Engineering) in 2012 from Virginia Tech and Ph.D. (Biomedical Engineering) from Virginia Tech-Wake Forest University in 2014. His graduate work investigated the effects of dual-tasking on slip and fall risk in healthy young and elderly, his research also focused on frail cardiovascular disease patients, which have typically impaired motor control and result in adverse post-operative outcomes. At ASU, Dr. Soangra worked with Prof. Thurmon Lockhart in a clinical trial study to investigate the effects of dietary supplement on dynamic stability in community living elderly. Dr. Soangra’s research interests are focused on improving the overall quality of life of elderly patients by understanding the specific mechanisms that result in mobility and motor control limitations and by developing novel rehabilitation strategies that target those limitations. He investigates the use of sensor based technological systems for enriched rehabilitation in clinical and at home for patients with musculoskeletal and neurological problems.
