I am Katherine A. Miranda-Munoz, a Panamanian (Latina woman) dedicated scholar and researcher with a passion for biomedical engineering and entrepreneurship. My educational journey has been marked by a relentless pursuit of knowledge and innovation. I hold a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Arkansas, where I graduated in May 2021. I continued my academic journey by earning a master’s degree in biomedical engineering in December 2022, and I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the same field, specializing in Polymeric Biomaterials and Drug Delivery.
My commitment to research is evident through my roles as a Graduate Research Assistant and Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University of Arkansas's Ralph E. Martin Department of Chemical Engineering, under the guidance of Dr. Jorge Almodovar. I have also served as a mentor, sharing my knowledge and experience with fellow students.
One of my notable research projects involved the fabrication of microneedle patches for the delivery of NSAIDs as a pain management approach for veterinary applications. This innovative work aimed to enhance pain relief for animals and was a testament to my dedication to improving healthcare across species.
In addition to my academic achievements, I have received several prestigious awards, including Winrock International's Science Venture Studio commercialization fellowship, NSF I-Corps grant, and the Kaneaster and Ruth Lindley Hodges Entrepreneurial Fellowship. These awards reflect my dedication to entrepreneurship principles and innovation.
My research interests span various aspects of biomedical engineering, from biomaterials and drug delivery to regenerative medicine and biomolecular engineering. I am driven by the desire to contribute to the advancement of healthcare and look forward to the exciting challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in my academic and entrepreneurial journey.
