Oregon State University
Corvallis, Oregon, United States
Rachel Thompson is a second-year bioengineering PhD Student at the Oregon State University. As a young graduate student, Rachel is committed to researching novel methods related to lower back pain to improve the quality of life of those with mobility struggles.
Before starting her graduate studies at Oregon State, Rachel obtained a Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering from the University of California, Irvine. As an undergraduate, Rachel researched biomedical optics, specifically using light to detect early-onset skin cancer. Rachel then worked as a design quality engineer for four years in the biomedical technology space. During this time, Rachel performed risk assessment on new product development on disposable respiratory care products at Vyaire Medical and ischemic stroke catheters at Medtronic Neurovascular.
In continuing her education, Rachel aims to give back to the biomedical community through her research and foster inclusive environments in academic and professional workspaces.
