Esra Tiftik Karabay is fourth year Bioengineering PhD student in the joint doctoral program between San Diego State University and UC San Diego. Her research explores between cell phenotype and its mechanical response to intra- and extra-cellular signaling. Integrating cell external signaling such us growth factors, hormones and extracellular matrix to cell cytoskeletal moeties, her current work examines how cells signaling heterogeneity contributes cellular cytsokeletal organization, force generation and migration in 2D and 3D environments. Prior to arriving at UCSD and SDSU, Esra completed Master’s Degree in Chemical engineering from the University of Southern California and studied computational system biology and photoresponsive surfactants. She was awarded the Fulbright Scholarship from 2016-2018.
