Fariha Ahmad, is a 3rd year PhD student in the Department of Bioengineering at Rice University. Born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV), a region consisting of a cluster of cities at the southernmost tip of the Texas-Mexico border, Fariha, earned her Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas - RGV. After graduating from UTRGV, Fariha started her PhD in Bioengineering at Rice University, where she works in the lab of Dr. Jane Grande-Allen, developing biomimetic systems to better recapitulate the microenvironment of the small intestine.
