PhD Candidate

Taylor Marohl (she/her) is a PhD Candidate in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia, working in the laboratory of Dr. Kevin Janes. She is a cancer systems biologist and is particularly interested in the interplay between aberrant cell signaling and tumorigenesis. Taylor leverages both experimental and computational approaches to further her research goals, including genetic engineering, 3D spheroid culture, in vivo tumor growth, and bioinformatics. Her thesis work includes assessing the effects of an unusual proprotein convertase mutation on the MCF10DCIS model of breast ductal carcinoma in situ and delineating the impact of estrogen receptor mutation on the transcriptional response of hormone receptor-positive breast cancer cells to combination treatment with estrogen receptor degrader, CDK4/6-inhibitor, and PI3Kα-inhibitor. Taylor grew up in Green Bay, WI and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. She enjoys hiking, traveling, and training her rescue dog Bruno (who has learned to fetch a "cold beverage" from the fridge).
