Christopher Madl, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Materials Science and Engineering Department at the University of Pennsylvania. His lab employs protein engineering and stimuli-responsive bioorthogonal chemistries to develop hydrogel-based organotypic cell culture platforms to study the mechanobiology of aging and disease. The lab's current focus is on skeletal muscle pathologies and neurodegeneration. Dr. Madl completed his BA in Engineering Sciences and Chemistry and his MS in Engineering Sciences at Harvard University, and his PhD in Bioengineering at Stanford University. He performed his postdoctoral training at Stanford Medical School in Stem Cell Biology as a Life Sciences Research Foundation postdoctoral fellow and a NIH K99/R00 Pathway to Independence awardee.
