Incoming Assistant Professor
Duke University
Palo Alto, California, United States
John W. Hickey is an incoming assistant professor at Duke University in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. His lab works at the interface of engineering and immunology, utilizing and developing systems immunology tools to investigate tissue structure in situ. The Hickey Lab approach begins with the application of multiplexed imaging and computational techniques to characterize spatial cellular responses related to the effectiveness of anti-cancer cell therapies. Subsequently, the group implements cell therapies or biomaterial augmentations to manipulate the cellular microenvironment, creating a virtuous cycle of experimentation and refinement.
John completed his postdoctoral training in Garry Nolan's lab at Stanford University, where he used and developed systems biology tools to analyze spatial relationships among cells in tissues. Prior to that, he pursued his PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University under the guidance of Dr. Jonathan Schneck and Hai-Quan Mao. During his doctoral studies, he developed magnetic nanoparticles for enriching and expanding rare antigen-specific T cells, as well as the design of hydrogels for adoptive T cell therapy.
If you are interested to join the lab, please reach out to John. The lab is recruiting at all levels!
