Graduate Research Assistant
Michigan State University
Kay Hadrick is a PhD Candidate in Dr. Taeho Kim's lab at Michigan State University who hopes to solve medical problems using innovative nano-scale technologies. Originally from Boise, Idaho, Kay worked under Dr. Elton Graugnard in his lab at Boise State University developing a reporter for a catalytic reaction network used to detect miRNA. After graduating from high school in 2016, Kay pursued her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of California Davis. During her time there, she researched the physical properties of human neutrophils when exposed to pathogens under Dr. Volkmar Heinrich. Following her graduation in June 2020, she moved to East Lansing, MI to pursue her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Michigan State University. She is currently in her 4th year, and her research focuses on the development of novel nanozymes capable of modulating macrophage phenotype.
When she is not working in the lab, Kay enjoys training in the martial arts and volunteering to teach them to children.
