Assistant Professor
University of California, Irvine
Dr. Pim Oomen is an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Irvine. The mission of his lab is to develop inclusive multiscale computational and experimental tools to advance our knowledge of cardiovascular biomechanics and electrophysiology, employ our tools to improve and design cardiovascular therapies, and to train a new, diverse generation of biomedical engineers. He collaborates closely with clinicians to focus on research questions that are relevant to patient health and to make a direct impact on healthcare. His lab is part of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Edwards Lifesciences Foundation Cardiovascular Innovation and Research Center, and the Center for Complex Biological Systems at UCI.
Dr. Oomen holds a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology in his native Netherlands. He completed his postdoctoral training at the University of Virginia and was a senior scientist in the University of Virginia Health System. He received a Dutch Heart Association Young Talent Award Fellowship, and was selected as a Rising Star in Engineering in Health by Columbia University in 2021. In his free time, you can find him playing music, hiking the southern California, mountains, and exploring the rest of the world by bike.
