Brian Philip is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Utah studying biomedical engineering with a focus in neural interfaces. Specifically, he researches neurostimulation within epilepsy patients to understand how stimulation changes brain dynamics. He has won second place alongside his teammates in a Bench2Bedside competition, involving developing and marketing a biomedical device. He has served as in multiple stem-related outreach activities, including being a judge for local science fairs, creating science experiments for kids at local elementary schools, and tutoring students.
He graduated with a B.S. in Biology from SUNY at Albany and received the Spellman Award for Achievement in 2014. As an undergraduate, he was involved in research of lead in D. melanogaster. He received his M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from SUNY Binghamton for building on a kidney-on-a-chip model to include glomeruli on top of proximal tubule cells. In his free time, he enjoys playing chess, walking his Australian Cattle named Penny, skiing, and developing apps.
