Dr Guak-Kim Tan (GKT) is curretnly a Research Assistant Professor at Shriners Hospital-Portland and Dept. of Ortho & Rehabilitayion, OHSU, OR. She is a musculoskeletal biologist and bioengineer with 10+ years of experience in mouse genetics & injury models, cell culture, single cell transcriptome, immunostaining and biochemistry. She was initially trained as a biomedical scientist and later in the field of bioengineering, where she developed biomimetic scaffolds for meniscal tissue engineering using human meniscal cells and human mesenchymal stem cells during her PhD, and controlled delivery systems to enhance skin wound repair for her postdoc research in Japan. Currently specializing in tendon development and leveraging endogenous stem cells for tendon (musculoskeletal) wound repair. Demonstrated adaptability through postdoctoral research in two distinct fields: bioengineering and developmental biology.
