PhD Candidate
Duke University
Joshua (Josh) Milligan (MS) is a 5th-year PhD Candidate in Prof. Ashutosh Chilkoti's lab at Duke University. Josh's research focuses on targeted, controlled delivery of immunotherapy and radiotherapy drugs for the treatment of metastatic cancer. Using elastin-like polypeptide (ELP) technology for delivery of thermally-responsive drug depots, Josh helped create and is currently optimizing a combination immunotherapy and radiotherapy treatment regimen for metastatic breast cancer, an in situ cancer vaccine using radiotherapy in combination with chemo- and immuno-therapy for pancreatic cancer, and is researching the immunological effects of sustained release immunotherapies on the anti-cancer response.
Josh completed his Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biomedical and Health Sciences Engineering in the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at NC State Univeristy and UNC Chapel Hill, and also completed his Master of Science (MS) degree in Biomedical Engieering at Duke. He intends to pursue a career in research and development (R&D) in the biotechnology industry after completion of his PhD at Duke.
