Professor MAIGA is a specialist in molecular virology at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Technical Sciences and Technologies in Bamako (USTTB), Mali. Professor Maiga has been conducting medical research for over 18 years into the molecular epidemiology of HIV resistance to antiretroviral drugs, and the clinical and biological management of patients infected with HIV, viral hepatitis, and emerging viral infections such as Ebola, dengue fever, and SARS-CoV-2. He heads the medical biology department at the Gabriel Touré University Hospital in Bamako and the HIV molecular resistance and epidemiology laboratory at the Centre Universitaire de Recherche Clinique (UCRC) at the USTTB. He is vice-chairman of the National Scientific Committee for the Treatment and Clinical Management of HIV at the Malian Ministry of Health. Prof Maiga initiated the Biomedical Engineering program in collaboration with the National Engineering School of Mali (ENI-ABT). He coordinates the HIV expert group in the ANRS-MIE virology network in France. He is also a member of the Coordinated Action (AC43, AC44, and AC46) of the ANRS-MIE. He is also Secretary General of a young African association for research and antimicrobial resistance in Africa called "AAAMR", President of the Malian Virology Society (SOMAVIR), and a member of several international societies and NGOs such as SOTHIS, Expertise France, Africa Virology Forum (AVF), RESAPSI, IAS, and others. He is also a member of the scientific committees of numerous regional and international conferences worldwide. He works mainly with Northwestern University in Chicago, the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital at Sorbonne University, and the Pierre et Marie-Curie University in Paris. He teaches in several universities in the sub-region and internationally. He is the author or co-author of more than 90 peer-reviewed articles in regional and international journals.
